Segun este Padre de la Iglesia, el cristiano no cree porque no es capaz de pensar y, entonces, debe creer por narices.., sino que el cristiano cree justamente porque piensa.
"Nadie cree algo si antes no lo pensó creíble... Todo lo que se cree es creído después de haberlo pensado... No todos los que piensan creen, pues muchos piensan para no creer, pero todos los que creen piensan, piensan creyendo y creen pensando (Agustin, La Predestinacion de los Santos 5; PL 44:962-963)
"No one believes anything unless one first thought it believable... Everything that is believed is believed after preceded by thought... Not everyone who thinks believes, since many think in order not to believe, but everyone who believes thinks, thinks in believing and believes in thinking" (Augustine, Predestination of the Saints 5; PL 44:962–963).
